Bir eylemin ne zaman, nasıl ya da hangi maksatla yapıldığını bildiren kelimelere zarf deni. Örneğin: ''Sabahtan beri bekliyoruz.'' cümlesinde ''sabahtan beri'' tamlaması zarf olarak kullanılmıştır. Çeşitli ekler alarak zarf olarak kullanılan kelimelere ise zarf fiil ya da ulaç adı verilir.
