Üçlü vardiya sisteminde çalışanlar günde üç vardiya olarak 8 saatlik çalışma dilimlerinde yer alırlar. Üç vardiyalı çalışma sisteminde ara dinlenmelerle birlikte kanuna uygun olarak haftalık kırk beş saatten daha fazla çalışma yapılamaz.

İşyerinde iki gün gece, iki gün gündüz, iki gün dinlenme şeklinde çalışan işçinin haftalık 45 saati aşan çalışması bulunmasa da gece çalışmalarındaki 7,5 saati aşan çalışmalar fazla çalışma sayılmalıdır.

Gece vardiyası, 7/24 esasında çalışan bir işletmede İş Kanunu'nun ilgili maddesine göre en geç saat 20:00'da başlayan ve en erken saat 06:00'ya kadar geçen ve her halde en fazla 11 saat süren bir dönem olarak belirtilmiştir. Yine kanuna göre gece vardiyası 7.5 saatten fazla süremez.
