Tarih boyunca gecelerin vazgeçilmezi mum, teknolojik gelişmeler karşısında günlük yaşamın vazgeçilmez dekorasyon malzemesi olarak kullanılmaya başlandı. Mısır ve Girit'te icat edilen ve en az 5 bin yıllık olduğu şamdanlardan anlaşılan mum, Antik Çağ'ın ilk buluşları arasında yer alıyor.

Mum nasıl icat edildi?

Mum, tarihin ilk icatlarından biridir. Mısır'da ve Girit adasında milattan 3000 yıl önceden kalma mumlar bulunmuştur ama en yaygın kullanılışı ortaçağda Avrupa'da olmuştur. Tarihi bu kadar eski olup da günümüzde de popülaritesini yitirmeyen ve çok yaygın olarak kullanılan başka hiçbir şey yoktur.


Mumun ana maddesi nedir?

Stearik asitten ayrı, iki önemli malzeme daha bulunmuştur: İspermeçet balinasının kafa boşluğundan elde edilen ispermeçet ve petrolün bir yan ürünü olan parafin. Bu buluşlardan sonra, parafin ve stearik asitle hazırlanan karışım, mumun temel malzemesi hâline gelmiştir.

1 kg parafin ne kadar?

Genellikle standart ticari mumlar genellikle % 60 parafin, % 35 stearik asit ve %5 balmumu içerir. Bal mumundan yapılan mumlar sadece saf bal mumu, parafin ve az miktarda sertleştirici mum kullanılarak yapılır. Dekoratif mumlarda, genellikle balmumu ve parafin dışındaki mumlar kullanılır.

Mum sıcaklığı kaç derecedir?

Mumu ilk kullanımda mutlaka 2 saat boyunca yakmaya özen gösterin. Bu yöntemdeki amaç, mumun yaklaşık 1 cm derinliğe kadar bütünüyle erimesidir. Kokulu mumların kokusunu korumak için mumu tek seferde 4 saatten fazla yakmamaya özen gösterin.

Mum erir mi yanar mı?
